Ontario MOL inspector facing charges in extortion investigation

Joseph Ah-Hone, an Ontario Ministry of Labour inspector, is being charged with extortion, the Toronto Police Service said.
In the afternoon of June 25, the Toronto Police Service received a call for a fraud. Ah-Hone was conducting a safety audit of a business when he found a number of items not in compliance. Initially, he left the owners to fix them, but then he returned and made an improper request for money from the owner.

On Oct. 21, Ah-Hone was arrested and charged with breach of trust, accepting a benefit from person having dealings with government and extortion.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 4.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour reminds the public that inspectors are trained in legislation, policy and procedures and technical requirements. They are provincial offences officers and adhere to a code of professionalism. As public servants, they are forbidden to accept money or commissions for any service rendered.

Police believe there may be more victims.
