With over two decades of experience in British Columbia’s mining sector, Cheryl is a respected health and safety regulator known for her expertise in incident investigation and human organizational performance. She champions a modern, learning-focused approach to regulation to prioritize understanding how everyday work is done over assigning blame. Cheryl collaborates across regulatory agencies on the topic of Regulating Differently to foster a culture of growth, offering fresh insights into how regulators can evolve alongside today’s complex workplaces.

Jim Frederick
Jim Frederick is a Principal with NEXUS HSE, LLC, and a Senior Fellow with the McElhattan Foundation. From 2021-2025, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health at the United States Department of Labor. Prior to his federal service, Jim spent 25 years with the United Steelworkers Union where he held the role of Assistant Director of Health, Safety and Environment. Jim has a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and a Master of Science degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
