Asbestos abatement company fined $80,000

Inspectors observed that containment poly sheeting had been removed

3D Environmental Groups of Surrey, B.C. has been fined $80,000 by WorkSafeBC.

This firm was conducting asbestos abatement at a house slated for demolition.

When WorkSafeBC inspected the work site, the containment poly sheeting had been removed. Drywall joint compound, an identified asbestos-containing material (ACM), was still in place in an auxiliary building.

Previously disturbed ACMs also remained in the building and there was no banner tape or other means to warn workers of the hazard.

WorkSafeBC issued a stop-work order. The firm failed to safely contain or remove all hazardous materials. This was a repeated and high-risk violation.
