B.C. forestry worker dies on the job

A British Columbia forestry worker died after the skidder they were operating rolled down a steep slope, according to a report.

The incident happened on Sept. 16 north of Revelstoke.

WorkSafeBC and the BC Coroners Service are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Details regarding contributing factors have not yet been released, as the investigation is ongoing , Castanet noted.

This is the fifth forestry fatality in the province so far in 2025, according to the report.

In its media release, the BC Forest Safety Council emphasized the importance of thorough site assessments before commencing steep slope logging operations.

The Council advised that these assessments should be used to develop site-specific procedures aimed at keeping equipment stable during operation.

“Operating logging equipment at its limits does not allow for unexpected terrain. Maintain safety buffers by not operating on the steepest possible slopes. This helps operators recover when surprised by an unexpected event,” the Council stated, as reported by Castanet.
