Hundseth Power Line Construction fined $70,000 after serious worker injury

Hundseth Power Line Construction has been fined a total of $70,000 after a worker suffered serious injuries while working on a power pole near Canora, Sask., in 2023, according to the provincial government.

The case underscores the continuing enforcement focus on high‑risk sectors such as power line construction, where work at height and proximity to energized equipment present significant hazards.

The company pleaded guilty in Yorkton Provincial Court on March 25, 2026, to one violation of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, the Saskatchewan government said in a news release issued April 9.

The charges stem from an incident on April 16, 2023, near Canora, where “a worker was seriously injured while working on a power pole,” the government said.

No further details of the incident were released, but the reference to serious injury indicates the worker’s condition met the threshold for a major harm event under provincial reporting and enforcement criteria.

Offence and penalty

Hundseth Power Line Construction was convicted of contravening clause 3‑1(c) of the regulations. The clause deals with an employer’s duty “including the provision of any information, instruction, training and supervision that is necessary to protect the health and safety of workers at work,” and in this case the contravention “result[ed] in a serious injury of a worker.”

As a result of the conviction, the Court imposed a $50,000 fine and a $20,000 victim fine surcharge, for a total financial penalty of $70,000. The surcharge is designed to support programs and services for victims and is applied in addition to the base fine in serious workplace cases.

One additional charge against the company was withdrawn as part of the proceedings.
