SCSA honours safety leaders in Saskatchewan construction

The Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA) has announced the recipients of its 2025 Safety Awards, recognizing outstanding leadership and commitment to health and safety in the province’s building construction sector.

This year’s honourees include:

  • Corporate Leadership in Safety: Ram Steel Ltd.
  • Safety Leader: Sean Lyons, Tron Construction and Mining
  • Safety Practitioner: Ray Decena, Zak’s Building Group

The awards highlight individuals and organizations that exemplify best practices in workplace safety, demonstrating innovation, accountability, and leadership in fostering a culture of prevention across Saskatchewan’s construction industry.

“We saw so many great nominations this year, it confirms the resonance of our vision to build a culture of physical and mental safety for all,” said SCSA President Collin Pullar. “These winners are excellent examples of our members who are committed to making a difference on their sites and in the broader industry.”

Ram Steel Ltd., a repeat winner in the Corporate Leadership category, was praised for its sustained efforts since its first win in 2023. The company has continued to invest in safety training and proactive hazard recognition, including a new focus on energy-based hazards such as gravity, pressure, and mechanical forces. As a COR®-certified firm, Ram Steel demonstrates a structured and preventative approach aimed at achieving an incident-free workplace.

Sean Lyons, honoured as Safety Leader, is a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) known for mentoring peers and empowering workers to identify hazards and voice safety concerns. Colleagues regard him as a trusted coach who fosters confidence and accountability on job sites.

Ray Decena, recognized as Safety Practitioner of the Year, is a National Health and Safety Administrator (NHSA™) who leads by example. Known for building trust within his team, Decena is credited with improving both awareness and performance by encouraging open dialogue and embedding safety into daily operations.

The SCSA, a non-profit organization funded by the construction industry, supports employers registered with Saskatchewan’s Workers’ Compensation Board through training, certification programs, and tailored safety solutions.
