Inquest scheduled into death of construction worker

Dr. Jennifer M. Dmetrichuk, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, has officially scheduled an inquest into the death of Luis Pinto.

Pinto was 44-years-old when he died in hospital on May 25, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained while working on a construction site in Brampton, Ontario. The requirement for an inquest into his death is mandated under the Coroners Act.

The inquest, set to commence on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 9 a.m., will meticulously scrutinize the circumstances surrounding Pinto’s death. A jury will be tasked with reviewing the case, and they may formulate recommendations aimed at preventing similar fatalities in the future.

Six witnesses are expected to testify over the course of three days. Dr. Robert Boyko will serve as the presiding officer for the inquest, with Grace Alcaide Janicas fulfilling the role of inquest counsel.
