Ontario worker charged with second-degree murder for death of another worker

Toronto police have charged a man with second-degree murder after finding his co-worker dead at an Etobicoke business earlier this week, according to a report.

Officers responded to a business near Vulcan and Iron streets, west of Martin Grove Road, on Monday night and discovered a deceased individual, CTV News noted.

After conducting an autopsy, police determined on Wednesday that the death was a homicide

Police identified the victim as 35-year-old Derrick Cheung of Brampton, marking Toronto’s 33rd homicide of the year. Police have not yet released the specific cause of death.

The Toronto Police initially arrested 36-year-old Lennard Emptage of Georgetown on Tuesday and charged him with indecent interference with a dead body. On Wednesday, they laid an additional charge of second-degree murder against Emptage, according to the report.

Constable Laurie McCann confirmed to CP24 that Cheung and Emptage worked together. “They were co-workers,” she wrote in an email, noted CTV News.

Investigators have not released a motive for the killing. “As the investigation is still active and ongoing, I have no further information to share at this time,” McCann said.
