Security guards suffer serious injuries after being splashed with bleach, says report

Two hospital security guards sustained serious injuries following an assault by a 16-year-old male at a health facility in Nova Scotia.
The incident occurred on May 6 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro.
“There was a young person visiting the hospital because they had a family member receiving care,” said Truro Police Service Chief David MacNeil, according to a report by CBC News.
“They were upset by something that had happened and, as far as we can determine, there was some form of interaction or discussion with security staff. The young person then left the hospital and returned later, at which point they threw a substance on two of the security guards, assaulting them.”
According to the report, the substance was bleach. One guard was splashed in the face, while the other was struck on the torso.
Paladin Security—which provides service to the hospital—said that the security guards were able to regain control of the situation and "maintain control of the individual" until police arrived, according to CBC.
Both guards suffered serious injuries which required medical treatment, according to the police.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and is facing numerous charges, including assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. He appeared in court this past Thursday.
Nova Scotia Health is saddened by the incident and is working closely with police, according to CBC.
“Our immediate focus remains on supporting the team members impacted by this event," they said.
The 16-year-old attacker cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, said the Truro police.
