Arrest happened while police were working on another case
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers have arrested on Friday a man wanted for the murder of an Alberta county employee last month.
Alberta RCMP arrested 28-year-old Elijah Blake Strawberry on Friday “successfully and safely,” police said, according to a CTV News report.
"Following an intense search and multiple pleas for information, on Sept. 13, 2024, today, just after 1 p.m., members of the Alberta RCMP major crimes unit successfully and safely arrested 28-year-old Elijah Blake Strawberry at a residence in O'Chiese First Nation," said Alberta RCMP Chief Superintendent Roberta Mckale, according to the report.
Strawberry is a suspect in the death of Colin Hough, a Rocky View County employee, who lost his life on Aug. 6 at the age of 45.
Hough was shot and fatally wounded when he offered to help assailants with their burning truck.
A funeral for Hough was held about a week after his death.
Strawberry’s arrest happened when police were working on another case, said Mckale in the report.
"Our investigators were in O'Chiese First Nation, at a residence on another matter – the major crimes unit was there working another file – and ended up locating him hiding in the residence," said Mckale.
Strawberry will appear before a Justice of the Peace, "to determine his release status and a future court date," said Mckale.
The other suspect, 35-year-old Arthur Wayne Penner, was arrested with the assistance of the Edmonton Police Service, according to the CTV News report.
The investigation into the murder of Hough continues, according to the report.
