Ministry assigns inspector on the case
A worker died after a reported fall from a garage roof in Toronto’s west end.
Toronto police said the incident happened Tuesday near Bloor Street West and Ossington Avenue. Officers were called to the area at about 11:15 a.m., and the worker was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CBC.
The circumstances of the fall and the events leading up to it have not yet been made public.
Official response and investigation
In an email Tuesday, Ministry of Labour spokesperson Janet Deline said the ministry “was notified on Tuesday that a worker suffered fatal injuries at a project in Toronto,” CBC reported. Deline said a ministry inspector has been assigned to the case and “no other details were available.”
Authorities have not released the worker’s identity, the name of the employer or the nature of the project. CBC said no further information has been provided about site conditions or what safety measures were in place at the time of the incident.
The police response is proceeding alongside the Ministry of Labour probe, a standard approach when a worker suffers fatal injuries on the job. CBC has reported that officials have not indicated whether any orders or penalties are under consideration at this stage.
