Incomplete hand washing puts medical workers at risk of COVID-19, warn TWI Institute

The TWI Institute warned that incomplete washing of hands puts many people – especially healthcare workers – at a higher risk of acquiring the COVID-19 coronavirus.

In an instructional hand washing video, the institute emphasized the importance of washing one’s thumb separately from the rest of the hand.

“The ‘why’ is because people use their thumb so often and in so many ways, that the risk of germs being present or transferred is very high,” said TWI Institute.

Health professionals have repeatedly said that the regular washing of hands is an important step to take to avoid acquiring and spreading the COVID-19 virus.

The instructional video – along with an information flyer and pocket card – are available here.

On Mar. 13, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. As of Mar. 26, there are 3,385 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Canada, with 35 deaths.
