Kootenay Wood Preservers has been fined $42,112 by WorkSafeBC.

This firm operates a wooden post manufacturing and chipper facility in Lumberton, B.C. WorkSafeBC inspected the work site after a worker was seriously injured while clearing a jam in the drive chain area of a post peeler.

Over the course of multiple inspections, WorkSafeBC observed several pieces of equipment that lacked adequate safeguards, including post peelers and a pointer domer machine with exposed drive sprockets and chains.

This firm failed to ensure that machinery and equipment were fitted with adequate safeguards to protect workers from hazardous power transmission parts.

This was a high-risk violation.
