This comes after a series of explosions and fires
Niagra regional police charged three people due to the explosions at a hazardous waste management plant that killed a worker, according to CBC.
On January 12, 2023, emergency crews were called to Ssonix Products after a series of explosions and fires. This prompted nearby homes to evacuate as crews put out the fire.
The only person in the building during that time was Ryan Konkin, 37, and was taken to the hospital, where he later died due to the injuries.
A "continued joint investigation" by the police, Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal, the local fire department, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Environment, and Ontario Provincial Police saw the three people charged with "criminal negligence causing death" and "arson by negligence," according to police news released Monday.
The company's line of business includes producing gasoline, kerosene, distillate, fuel oils, residual fuel oils, and lubricants, according to its website.
Ssonix Products and three directors faced 84 combined chargers under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act in September last year.
The first responders who treated Konkin heard his final words, his fiancée told CNC Hamilton.
