Meller Optics unveils sapphire windows for drone-mounted camera protection

Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island, has introduced custom sapphire windows designed to shield drone-mounted cameras, thermal imagers, and sensors used in firefighting and severe-weather inspection operations. The company says the windows, rated Mohs 9 hardness, protect against ash, debris, chemicals, and extreme heat, withstanding temperatures up to 1,000°C and pressures to 10,000 psi. Uncoated units transmit 85% of light from UV to IR, rising above 99% with anti-reflective coatings. Windows are manufactured to custom specifications in diameters from 1/4 inch to 10 inches. Pricing varies by configuration and is available on request from the manufacturer.
