Inquest scheduled into three separate deaths of construction workers

An inquest has been scheduled into the deaths of three construction workers who all died on the job in separate incidents, but in a similar manner.

Talbout Bouwman, Lawrence Brubacher-Horst, and Adam Chmielarz died from multiple injuries after being struck by motor vehicles while working at various construction sites in Ontario.

Brubacher was 24 years old when he died in March 2018. Bouwman was 55 when he died later that year in October. And Chmielarz was 31 when he died in December 2020.

An inquest into their deaths is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

It is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 8 and is expected to last nine days.

It will be conducted by video conference and members of the public will be able to view the proceedings.

The inquest is not meant to determine blame, but will examine the circumstances surrounding each individual’s death, with the goal of preventing similar deaths in the future.

The jury may make recommendations aimed at improving safety in construction and road work.
