Roofer fined $13K for lack of fall protection

No worker training, written plan or equipment available

Affordable Quality Roofing has been fined $13,271.

This firm was re-roofing a commercial building in Vancouver. WorkSafeBC observed two workers walking at the edge of the roof. The workers, one of whom was a supervisor, were not using personal fall protection systems. No other form of fall protection was in place, exposing the workers to a fall risk greater than 7.6 metres.

The firm failed to ensure fall protection was used, a high-risk violation. In addition, the firm failed to have a written fall protection plan in place as required. Furthermore, the firm failed to provide its workers with the information, instruction, training, and supervision necessary to ensure their health and safety. These were all repeated violations.
