Webinar reveals hidden risks with temporary agency workers

Businesses often need to utilize temporary agency workers to fill staffing gaps, but who is responsible for the safety of these workers.  Is it the agency?  Or is it the company that owns the work site? Dylan Short answers these questions and more during a webinar called Hidden Risks of Temporary Agency Workers & Strategies for Success.

Short is the managing director of The Redlands Group, and he explores topics such as Canadian regulatory issues and regulator expectations and what happens when these requirements are not met.

Figures from Statistics Canada show rising demand for employment agencies, with the industry growing by 38 percent between 2016 and 2021.  “The use of temporary agency workers in workplaces is becoming very pervasive across all industries,” says Short, “we've started working more and more with organizations to be able to help them understand where this impacts their operation.”

Short also says there is a large grey zone surrounding safety responsibilities, and the regulations can vary depending on jurisdiction. “The Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the various provinces or territories across Canada really was not designed for dealing with agency workers,” says Short who explores these issues in the webinar and provides strategies for navigating these uncertainties.

Businesses using temporary workers will also need to forge great relationships with the agencies they’re working with while defining roles and responsibilities, so that everyone knows and understands the rules and regulations.  In the webinar Hidden Risks of Temporary Agency Workers & Strategies for Success, Short provides advice on how to go about forming these relationships built on mutual respect and understanding.

If your organization regularly uses or plans to use temporary agency workers, the webinar will provide helpful tips and pointers.  Watch it today.
