Firefighter injured after partial roof collapse

One firefighter in Ontario sustained an injury while battling fire on Friday, according to a report.

The firefighter was injured when "a partial roof collapse" landed on him around 2 p.m. while fighting a fire in the suburb area of Barrhaven, the Ottawa Fire Services, according to a CTV News report.

The injured firefighter was able to extricate himself from the fire with the help of other crew members. He was taken to hospital, according to an Ottawa Citizen report.

"They had a CT scan done. Thankfully, it came back negative and he was released last night," said OFS spokesperson Nick DeFazio on Sunday, according to the report. "He did not return to work but is resting at home and is doing well."

The fire started in a garage of a single family home Friday at 23 Sutcliffe Terr, said the OFS. The scene became even more dangerous for firefighters as the fire spread to the house next door.

Overall, the OFS rescued six persons and five pets from the incident.
