WHSC expands training facilities in Southwestern Ontario

Increased demand for in-person workplace health and safety training fuels expansion

WHSC expands training facilities in Southwestern Ontario

Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) proudly announces the recent expansion of their training facilities to meet the return and growing demand for in-person learning. The new training facility, located at 500 Parkdale Ave. North in Hamilton, is designed to provide quality training at an affordable price for individuals working and living in Hamilton and the surrounding areas.

According to WHSC, the facility has been specifically tailored to cater to the needs of participants. It features dedicated classroom space, ensuring a comfortable and conducive learning environment. The facility is also equipped with ergonomic workstations and practical stations where participants can demonstrate important skills, such as the use of lifelines for working at heights and the setup of rope grabs for fall arrest and ladder use.

To meet the increasing demand, WHSC has expanded the range of courses offered at the new facility. The courses cover various aspects of workplace safety, including mandatory JHSC Certification and Working at Heights training, which are approved by Ontario's Chief Prevention Officer. WHSC also offers training on specific physical and psychosocial hazards, such as Indoor Air, Lockout, Workplace Violence, and Harassment.

WHSC emphasizes the importance of health and safety training as a key component of any effective workplace prevention program. The organization believes that quality training can help workplaces comply with legal requirements, reduce economic costs, and support prevention efforts. WHSC states, "Done right, effective training can help workplaces reduce the economic cost of fines, prosecutions, compensation claims and premium hikes, support workplace prevention efforts, bolster and maintain the knowledge and skill level of the workforce and ultimately promote worker health and safety."

Back in the spring, Ontario announced it would be investing $12.5 million in Ontario’s six health and safety associations, with WHSC being one of them. With over 35 years of experience, the organization is committed to supporting workers, their representatives, supervisors, and employers in creating safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces.

In addition to in-person training, WHSC also offers courses in online virtual classrooms, all of which are instructor-led. Furthermore, WHSC is flexible and willing to work with organizations to deliver training programs at a time and location that suits their workforce.

The expansion of WHSC's training facilities reflects the organization's dedication to promoting workplace safety through comprehensive and accessible training opportunities. By providing quality training and addressing the working conditions that contribute to injuries and illnesses, WHSC aims to make a significant impact on the health and safety of workers in Ontario.
