Power outage disrupts scene
A large power outage struck the same area at the time, affecting traffic signals at the intersection, York Regional Police told CBC News.
Alectra Utilities reported more than 6,000 customers lost power at the peak of the outage, which began around 11:55 a.m. and was attributed to a "vehicle collision with equipment," according to an outage map cited by CBC News. Power was largely restored by late Thursday afternoon.
Alectra spokesperson Lynne Cunningham told CBC News the company was "deeply saddened" to hear of the accident and said the incident remained under investigation. She added that Alectra had no further comment at this time.
