Construction workers die after being hit by on-site vehicle

A construction worker died after getting hit by a car at the worksite in Cleveland in the United States on Monday, according to a report.

Cleveland Police believe the worker was hit by a car at the housing development in Eaglescliffe, County Durham on Monday morning, reported Construction Enquirer. The worker died the following day, according to a police statement.

“The man’s family has been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time,” according to the police statement.

An 18-year-old man was arrested following the incident. He was released under investigation, according to the report.

Meanwhile, a Kansas City, Missouri man working in a construction zone was killed when he was struck by a truck on Saturday, reported The Kansas City Star.

The victim, 35-year-old Jonathon K. Wilson, of Kansas City, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The driver fled the scene on foot following the incident, according to the report citing a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Several construction workers have also been previously hurt by vehicles while at work. In July, a construction worker was struck by a vehicle on Highway 28 just east of Peterborough in Ontario. The worker sustained serious injuries from the incident.

In April, a construction worker was seriously injured in a hit-and-run near a road construction site in Montreal, QC.

Motor vehicle incidents were the leading cause of work-related fatalities in Ontario every single year during the past decade, according to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) in the province.
