The Chief Public Health Office continues to work closely with the federal government, provincial and territorial counterparts, government departments and Health PEI to continue to monitor the situation globally, nationally and locally.

Prince Edward Island is extending the closures for schools, daycares, non-essential government services and non-essential businesses because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Dr. Heather Morrison, chief public health officer.

All schools across the island will remain closed for in-person classes and daycares will remain closed until May 11 at the minimum. This will be re-evaluated closer to the date.

Non-essential government services and non-essential businesses will remain closed indefinitely, and the province continues to re-evaluate the situation on a regular basis. The government also said that staff should continue working from home wherever possible, and only essential workers should be on site.

Dr. Morrison reminded Islanders that anyone travelling across the Confederation Bridge should be doing so only out of necessity.

“The Chief Public Health Office continues to work closely with the federal government, provincial and territorial counterparts, government departments and Health PEI to continue to monitor the situation globally, nationally and locally,” says the government. “The public health risk of COVID-19 is continually reassessed and Islanders will be updated as new information becomes available.”

The government also continues to encourage everyone to practice measures to stay safe from COVID-19, including washing hands frequently with soap and water, covering nose and mouth with elbow when coughing or sneezing, and limiting the touching of eyes, nose and mouth.
