Workplace Safety North earns Great Place to Work® certification

Workplace Safety North (WSN) receives recognition as one of Canada’s best workplaces, earning Great Place to Work® certification following a staff-wide survey and culture assessment.

In a survey conducted in late 2024, 88 percent of WSN employees report that the organization is a great place to work, significantly surpassing the national average of 60 percent. The certification reflects high scores in areas such as trust, respect, and alignment with organizational values.

WSN conducts the Great Place to Work® survey biennially as part of its workplace engagement efforts. According to Megan Johnson, director of human resources, this year marks the first time the organization has pursued formal certification. “This achievement creates shared pride for all of us,” she says.

WSN president and CEO Mike Parent attributes the recognition to the organization’s culture and core values—compassion, integrity, respect, and team spirit. “It’s through true commitment to our mandate and the support each teammate has for one another that we achieve this milestone,” he says.

Beyond this recent certification, WSN has received accolades from Excellence Canada, including a platinum award for Mental Health at Work in 2024, and previous awards in the Healthy Workplace category—silver (2015), gold (2019), and platinum (2022).

Parent emphasizes the importance of internal culture in achieving the organization’s mission to ensure workers return home safe and healthy. “We’re dedicated to helping workplaces build strong health and safety cultures. Ours is no different,” he says.

Great Place to Work® supports organizations worldwide in developing positive work environments.
