A 21-year-old worker has died following an industrial accident at a grain facility in Chatham-Kent, Ont., the employer has confirmed.
The incident occurred on Feb. 2 at The Andersons grain facility on Kent Bridge Road, according to a statement reported by CBC. The company said first responders were called to the scene immediately, but the employee did not survive.
“We are heartbroken by this loss and extend our deepest condolences to the employee’s family, loved ones, and colleagues,” a spokesperson for The Andersons, an Ohio-headquartered grain company, said in the written statement carried by CBC.
The employer did not release details about how the accident happened or what work was being performed at the time. The company’s statement did not describe the circumstances of the incident, CBC reported.
No additional details about the worker’s identity, job role or length of employment have been made public.
Investigation underway
The Andersons said it is “co-operating fully with the authorities involved” as the investigation proceeds, CBC reported. Officials have not yet released further information on the nature of the incident or any potential contributing factors.
