Not removing all asbestos results in $40K fine

WorkSafeBC inspectors still found substance in drywall, ceiling insulation

EFE Hazmat has been fined $40,000 by WorkSafeBC.

This firm had conducted asbestos abatement at a pre-1990 house in Surrey, B.C. and issued a clearance letter indicating all asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) had been removed.

WorkSafeBC inspected the site and observed ACMs still present throughout the building, including drywall and ceiling insulation materials.

The firm failed to safely contain or remove all hazardous materials.

This was a repeated and high-risk violation.
