Worker seriously injured in the workplace
EvoQua Water Technologies Ltd., an international water-technology company operating in Fredericton’s Vanier Industrial Park, has pleaded guilty to a charge under New Brunswick’s Occupational Health and Safety Act following a workplace incident that resulted in a serious injury, according to a report.
The company appeared in Fredericton provincial court on Tuesday last week and admitted to violating workplace safety protocols related to an incident on October 24, 2023, in Oromocto, reported the Fredericton Independent.
During the incident, an employee sustained a carotid artery injury.
The report did not detail how the injury occurred.
WorkSafe New Brunswick, the provincial workplace safety agency, alleged that EvoQua failed to provide the necessary instruction to ensure the worker’s health and safety, according to the report.
The charge was laid last year after an investigation by WorkSafe New Brunswick. EvoQua Water Technologies was scheduled to stand trial this week but entered a guilty plea.
The company is expected to be fined later this fall, according to the Fredericton Independent.
