Canadian companies among 6th annual international business awards winners

Organizations and individuals from 27 countries, including Canada and first-time winners Japan, New Zealand, and Poland, have been announced as Stevie Award winners in the Sixth Annual International Business Awards, the world’s only international, all-encompassing business awards program.

Canada received four awards:
-       Marketing Department of the Year, Dyadem
-       Best Direction, TELUS Corporation
-       Magazine Format, TELUS Corporation
-       Investor Relations, Bank of Montreal

As it was last year, South Korea is the big winner with 28 Stevie Award wins, down from last year's total of 39. This year's breakout nation is Turkey, with six Stevie Awards.

Honorees were selected from more than 1,700 entries received from organizations and individuals in more than 40 countries.  Other nations with at least one Stevie Award each are Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the U.S.A.  A number of other nations are represented by finalists in the various categories.

Nicknamed the Stevies from the Greek word “crowned,” the awards will be presented at a gala banquet ceremony on Monday, September 14 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City.  A complete list of 2009 International Business Awards honorees is available at www.stevieawards.com/iba

All organizations worldwide are eligible to compete in The International Business Awards, and can enter in any of more than 40 categories including Multinational Company if the Year, Single-Market Company of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year, and Executive of the Year. The IBAs also feature a media section with many categories honouring advertising campaigns, web sites, videos, and corporate literature such as annual reports.

Members of the awards’ Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs selected the winners during final judging last month, which was preceded by two months of preliminary judging by business professionals worldwide.
