CCOHS sponsors contest to sensitize youth on the importance of workplace safety

The contest invites young people throughout Canada to submit an original video which could be used on social media and in other resources to illustrate the importance of workplace health and safety.

There are three ways to participate in the contest, in an effort to try and engage with youths across the Canadian territory.

Provincial Contest

To start with, each province and territory participating in the scheme will host its own contest. These provincial contests will also be co-sponsored by CCOHS. They will have their own set of criteria, deadlines and requirements. The first-place winners of these provincial contests will then be entered into the national contest.

Regional Qualifier Contest

In provinces and territories which are not running a contest, there will be a regional qualifier contest open to young people aged 13-19. The winner (individual or team) will receive $1,000 plus the winning video will be entered into the national Focus on Safety Youth Video Contest. For this category, hopeful participants must submit their video by 4pm EDT on Thursday, March 19, 2020.

National Contest

The winners of the first two contests (provincial & territorial, and regional) will then be able to move onto the national stage. The first-place entry will win $2,000. Second place will receive $1,500. Finally, the third-place winner will receive &1,000. Furthermore, each winning school or institution will also receive a matching prize. The winners of the national contest will be announced during Safety and Health Week in May 2020.

More information about the contest can be found on the Young Workers Zone website.
