Three companies were recognized for their strong health and safety cultures by Workplace Safety North (WSN), the safety association for Ontario's forestry, mining, paper and printing industries.
The winners will be presented with the awards at the WSN general meeting on Sept. 30 in North Bay, Ont.
The winners of the annual President's Award are:
•Forestry – Fleming’s Trucking and Logging, Richards Landing, Ont.
•Mining – Kidd Operations – A Glencore Company, Timmins, Ont.
•Paper, printing and converting – ACCO Brands Canada, Mississauga, Ont.
•Small firms (fewer than 50 full-time employees) – Fleming’s Trucking and Logging, Richards Landing, Ont.
“It’s important to recognize the efforts of workplaces that make health and safety a priority,” said Candys Ballanger-Michaud, WSN president and CEO. “They lead the way and set the tone for their sectors. That’s why these businesses deserve special recognition, for demonstrating their strong commitment to ensuring that every worker goes home safe and healthy each day. The award winners are positive role models for Ontario businesses to make workplace health and safety an integral part of every job and every work day.
