70-year-old construction worker struck by vehicle on site

A 70-year-old construction worker is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a passenger vehicle in an active work zone, according to a report.

The incident happened on Highway 21 near Kincardine in South Bruce, Ontario.

South Bruce OPP and local paramedics were called to the area of Highway 21 and Underwood Road at about 5:20 p.m. on Monday, CTV News reported. The collision occurred along a section of highway that was under construction at the time.

The worker was subsequently transported to a London trauma centre by Air Ornge, the outlet noted.

Highway 21 was closed between Concession 6 and Concession 8 until just before midnight while emergency crews responded and investigators remained on scene, according to the report.

Police and the Ontario Ministry of Labour are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, according to CTV News. 

Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance as part of the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area is being asked to contact South Bruce OPP, or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
