Cause of the fire has not yet been determined
A Walmart store on Plaza Boulevard was closed for roughly three days after a fire broke out among pallets outside the building Monday night, causing exterior damage and smoke infiltration but no reported injuries.
Moncton Fire Department crews responded to the store at 25 Plaza Blvd. at around 11 p.m. Monday following reports of pallets on fire outside the building, according to CTV News. Fire from the wooden and plastic pallets spread up the rear exterior wall of the store, causing damage to the back of the building and smoke damage inside, according to yourgreatermoncton.ca.
Tim Rossiter, acting platoon chief for the Moncton Fire Department, said 24 firefighters responded to the scene along with a fire investigator and NB Power crews, according to CTV News. RCMP and ambulance crews also attended, though no injuries to staff, customers, or emergency responders were reported.
Business continuity and closure
The store was evacuated Monday night and remained closed through Tuesday while crews assessed the damage. Walmart Canada issued a statement on social media addressing the closure: "Your Moncton West Walmart is temporarily closed until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time," the company said.
The store reopened at 7 a.m. Thursday, according to yourgreatermoncton.ca.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Moncton Fire Deputy Chief Keith Guptill confirmed the incident remains under investigation, according to yourgreatermoncton.ca.
