New health and safety award tops them all

Canadian Occupational Safety, in partnership with Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS), is pleased to officially launch the top award in the Canada's Safest Employers lineup — Canada’s Best Health + Safety Culture Award.
The award is the highest honour among health and safety awards in Canada. Canada’s Best Health + Safety Culture Award, sponsored by Levitt Safety, recognizes an employer that exceeds traditional health and safety practices by inspiring transformative behaviours within their networks and areas of influence.

"This award is the best of the best. It will go to a deserving organization that demonstrates an incredibly high level of health and safety excellence," said Amanda Silliker, editor of Canadian Occupational Safety. "The winning company will be a beacon of health, safety and corporate social responsibility for others to follow."

The award was launched at a cocktail reception in Mississauga, Ont., sponsored by Bruce Power, on April 28.

The award was inspired by the CEO H+S Leadership Network, a distinguished group of forward thinking senior leaders who embrace their role, both collectively and individually, as champions and influencers in the growth of sustainable businesses and communities.

“Organizations that apply for this award understand the correlation between organizational health and optimal business performance. They recognize that by strengthening their brand and firmly establishing their organization’s reputation as a leader in creating sustainable workplaces and communities,” said Elizabeth Mills, president and CEO of WSPS.

The nomination criteria focus on the areas of: leadership (safety values and action); accountability and integration; corporate social responsibility and change management; and organizational performance and evaluation.

Nominations are now open and the deadline to apply is July 15. The winner will be announced at the CSE gala on Oct. 28 in Toronto.
