Ministry of Labour has taken over the investigation
A worker has died following a workplace incident at Flamboro Speedway in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton police confirmed, according to a report.
Emergency crews were called to the speedway on 5th Concession Road West at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Saturday after an employee was injured, CBC reported.
In a Sunday news release, police described the incident as an "accident on the track." No further details about the cause have been made public.
Police response
Hamilton police said patrol officers, divisional detectives, forensic services and collision reconstruction investigators attended the scene, according to CBC.
The Ontario Ministry of Labour also responded to the speedway on the night of the incident.
The worker was transported to Hamilton General Hospital, where they later died of their injuries. Police have not released the victim's identity.
Police say the Ministry of Labour has now taken over the investigation, CBC News reported.
Flamboro Speedway was hosting a full night of racing on Saturday, according to the speedway's website.
The evening's programming included a Christmas in July toy drive and a meet-the-drivers event, CBC News noted.
It remains unclear whether the promotional event was connected to the circumstances of the worker's death.
