Cause of worker's death yet to be determined
A 39-year-old contractor has died following a mining incident at Elk Valley Resources' operations near Sparwood in southeastern British Columbia, according to a statement released by the Elk Valley Regional RCMP.
The worker, a resident of Hosmer, British Columbia, was reported missing on site at approximately 7:00 a.m. on November 20, 2025, at the Elk View Operations facility. According to the Elk Valley Regional RCMP, "the Elk Valley Resource (EVR) Mine Rescue teams were leading a search of the mine property involved in the incident," with RCMP providing assistance to the initial investigation.
By the morning of November 21, 2025, authorities had confirmed the fatal outcome. "Elk Valley RCMP can confirm that a contractor working on site has died and his remains have been recovered," the statement from Elk Valley Regional RCMP indicated.
The Elk Valley Regional RCMP reported that multiple agencies are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. "The BC Coroner's Office is currently on scene along with the RCMP. The Ministry of Mining was also notified and will be attending to complete their investigation, working with the BC Coroner Service and the Elk Valley RCMP," the statement noted.
Next of kin were notified on November 21 by RCMP officers, with Elk Valley Resources management providing support during the notification process. The Elk Valley Regional RCMP stated that "at this time, the name of the deceased will not be released," pending completion of notification procedures.
"Our investigation is ongoing," the Elk Valley Regional RCMP concluded in their statement, released by S/Sgt. S.D.A. (Svend) Nielsen, Detachment Commander.
