Boom lift made contact with an overhead hydro wire
Ontario's Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) is investigating a workplace fatality after a worker was electrocuted when a boom lift contacted a hydro line in West Grey.
Emergency crews were called to the scene along Grey Road 4 in Durham around noon on Tuesday, July 28, CKNX Midwestern News reported. West Grey Police told the outlet that a worker died after the boom lift they were operating made contact with an overhead hydro wire.
The identity of the deceased worker has not been released. The contact with the line also caused a power outage across much of West Grey.
Electricity service was restored within a few hours, according to the report.

West Grey Police said they are unable to release further details while the ministry investigation is underway. MLITSD has likewise declined to elaborate beyond confirming the notification and attendance of inspectors.
"On July 28, 2026, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) was notified of a workplace fatality in Durham," a ministry spokesperson said in a statement reported by CKNX Midwestern News. "Ministry inspectors have attended the scene. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time."
