Investigation underway after industrial accident leads to fatal injuries

A man in his 30s has died following a workplace explosion in southeast Calgary, according to police and emergency officials.
The incident occurred Thursday afternoon in the 7300 block of 107 Avenue S.E., where emergency crews responded to reports of a pressurized tank explosion. Authorities say the blast happened around 3:10 p.m. at an industrial site.
Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke said testing was underway on the tank when the explosion occurred.
“It was a tank of some sort and there was testing happening,” Henke said.
Calgary Herald reported that paramedics transported the injured man to Foothills Medical Centre in what was initially described as life-altering condition. His injuries were later deemed life-threatening. Calgary police confirmed he succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Two firefighters accompanied paramedics in the ambulance to assist with medical care. Fire crews cleared the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m.
No other injuries were reported.
