Employer cooperating with Ministry of Labour amid investigation

An employee working at an underground mine in Ontario was fatally injured on the job earlier this week.
The incident occurred on Monday at the Madsen Mine in Red Lake, according to West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd.
Ontario’s Ministry of Labour has been notified of the incident.
“It is reported that a worker was fatally injured when struck by equipment,” said Ministry of Labour spokesperson Janet Deline in a CTV News report.
“The ministry extends its sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the worker. A ministry inspector has been assigned and the investigation is ongoing.”
The employer stated it is cooperating with the investigation.
“The company is working closely with local and Ministry of Labour authorities, and an investigation and comprehensive review are underway.”
West Red Lake Gold Mines has also voluntarily suspended operations at the mine.
“The health, safety, and well-being of our employees is our top priority,” the company said.
“The thoughts of management are with the family, friends, and colleagues who have been impacted by this tragic incident.”
